| We finally made it to Lassen Volcanic National Park and Lassen
National Forest! But we went after (and during) the fires up there. The surrounding area is
beautiful and so is the starkness of the volcanic area. We hiked the Bumpass Hell Trail
(a moderate 3 mi rountrip hike) down to view the fumaroles and mudpots (this area is the largest
hydrothermal area of the park). The colors were fantastic (but not the smell)!
